I'm trying to find the balance with this at the moment, Ds is only 4, but some rhythm at the very least is really important to him - otherwise he sits in front of the puter or tv all day and can't seem to think for himself. I am in the process of getting him assessed as I'm fairly certain that he is on the Autism spectrum - most likely high functioning aspergers. One of the things both I and his OT have picked up on is that when his environment (especially his playroom) is ordered then he doesn't get the sensory overload that leads him to retreat into mindless watching
Which leads me (in a very round about way

) to my dilemma. I find keeping to even a very loose rhythm! I am much happier just pottering along with whatever comes into my head at the time... I am getting my head around it slowly (helped by a little brain growth spurt from DS which was inspiring) and I'm gonna try getting a rhythm going when we move but

Its hard to change to something so out of my range of comfort...
did I answer the question?
i loved reading the other PP's responses, I have lots to think about at the moment
