Well today we were in our 'work' room for the first time in ages as we had been brooding our chicks in there till today. I was sewing, the kids were drawing, cutting etc and DS5 comes out with.....
"I can go to real school now because I can draw" :shrug :uhh I dont really know how to take it. Does he think we are keeping him out of school because he is incapable?
It is true that he has been doing some corker drawings lately in a whole new way for him, but obviously I expressed to him that he wasnt home educated because he wasnt good enough for school. I said too much probably, talked again about what school is like, how he will learn better at home and enjoy it more...blah blah, and then he insisted on me being the teacher and telling him what to draw (he said 'you have to tell me, draw a bush, you see like this one' which he had already done), then I played along...then after 5 minutes and two DS motivated instructions from the 'teacher' he gets up and goes to the door and says 'I have to get out of this teacher room' :rofl . I pointed out to him that at school you couldnt just walk out , you'd have to wait for another 6 hours, so we talked about what an hour was...he didnt seem inpressed that you could watch Play School 3 times in an hour and there were 6 of those in a school day (arent there?).

He has asked to go to school before because he saw a school playground, so we went to the local indoor playground :| ho hum. It was so natural to me to meet his need for a big colourful playground and friends to play with in it out of school because of you awesome folks here. But I worry about his perception that he is educated differently to the majority cos he is not as good.
We dont spend much time with home edders but have begun to go to play meets in the park which will be good. But he still calls it school. Its just outside school.

:hug I don't think that perception will last too long in him. tell him he's too smart to be in school :lol (which is true)

Maybe he needs to be around more home ed kids? For my ds (who is almost six) homeschooling is just normal as 90% of the kids he sees are homeschooled. He doesn't compare himself to schooled children, they are just those people who are crossing the street at a certain time in the morning and afternoon.

That's what I was wondering too. And I agree with MF, that perception won't last long, especial with the freedom and nurturance you give him :)

I agree that hanging with more HEd'ers is good. That's one of th reasons my dd wanted to go to school this year. She's the oldest at hs group by a year (and the 9yr old is a boy) The closest girl is 3 yrs younger.
I'm all for kids playing with other kids of all ages but there was noone close to her age or older as rolemodels.

Hey Gumtree!
I have days where I have to pretend to be DD's old steiner kindy teacher :giggle She gets over it pretty quickly. Its usually an indicator that she'd like some structure or a bit of ritual for a day or so. I think that at this age they really don't get what school is. We talk about what DD would be doing in school and she reckons it sounds pretty boring. She'd like to go back to kindy and play all day, or stay at home :laughs

Look forward to seeing you at one of those playground meets soon ;) Or maybe we can start a Liberated Learning group?

Unhindered, do I know you? Where are you?
Bloss, have you been going to many meets?

I went to the Knocklofty one, but then missed 'our' meet down the road cos it was too hot and DS had asthma and he can't stop himself running around in the boiling sun and makes it worse. Intersting observation that your DD asks for 'school time' to get more structure...I see that DS thrives when I be a 'Montessori' teacher for the day (well thats what i call it...cos I have connected the things DS loves to do and concentrates on with M activities). And as he has had asthma symptoms for a couple of weeks and beenon ventolin everyday, and getrs generally irritated and aggressive during these periods it is hard to get him to focus on anything....actually I was so over it yesterday I threatened him with going to school  .

I know this OT gumtree, but I'm wondering if you are managing your ds's asthma with a preventer? Two weeks seems like a long time to be taking Ventolin every day...must be awful for you both! :hug

Thanks for the input Currawong.
No preventer as yet (since we weaned him off Singulaire last year), since Dec been doing nutritional supplementation, this is the first attack since then. We are trying to suss out what his asthma is like now we are supplementing. Obviously I am not happy that his symptoms have gone on for 2 weeks but is mainly just a cough with no wheeze, he was wheezy for a few days and seems to be getting better.
